*ABOUT THIS CLASS:

My classes are 1 1/2 hours long. They begin with centering and breath awareness. The bulk of the class consists of asanas (postures), which vary in intensity depending on the theme of the class. Each class integrates the science of bio-mechanical alignment, the art of inner body awareness and a celebration of the heart. Students are encouraged to explore the benefits of yoga in a lighthearted way. They are reminded that "you don't have to tie yourself up in knots to access your inner beauty...you begin with the first step-opening to possibility and expand from there.

*What is Mommy & Me Yoga?

-Mommy & Me Yoga is for any parent and child to spend quality time together while giving the parent a chance to exercise and feel great about oneself. Children will get a priceless bonding experience with parent while also learning many life skills: how to pay attention to their breath, quiet their mind and be still, importance of exercise and fitness, coordination, both individual and group activity, and much more!

*What to bring?

-Please bring your yoga mat & possibly one for your child as well; but I do have some mats available for use.  Wear fitted exercise clothing that will not fall down in poses such as downward dog and that will not be too baggy for poses such as tree pose.

*ABOUT THIS CLASS:

This class is for women AND MEN of any age and ANY level of experience. However, age 15 and up is recommended; under 18 needs parent signature. I will show you modifications to do based on your own body and your own level. This is non-judgemental and an all inclusive exercise program designed to help everyone. Those who've never done yoga or even those who've done yoga for many years can benefit from basic classes. I will go over multiple basic physical yoga poses while focusing on the proper techniques and alignment to ensure safety and maximum benefits from the poses. This is an informative, alignment & posture based class.

Fitness Yoga with Amanda Wheeler is:

  • not traditional yoga and only focuses on physical poses for benefitting the body (muscle tone, posture, alignment,etc)
  • Strength building
  • Focus on pain relief & management
  • Proper alignment and posture (misalignment causes pain...relieve it with yoga poses/postures!)
  • Stress relieving and calming of the mind
  • INCREASE flexibility...you don't have to be flexible already....the purpose is to gain flexibility (TRY YOGA :D) 
  • $12 per class

*What to Wear?

-form fitted or semi-fitted clothing that won't fall or slide while doing poses such as downward dog & forward fold (typically "leggings" or yoga capris/pants with a fitted shirt). Bare feet :)

*What to Bring?

-your own yoga mat if you have it (if not, I have some basic mats you may use)

-2 yoga blocks & a strap if you have them (if not, I again have some you can use)

-a throw blanket and/or kneeling pad (blankets are commonly used during the seated portion; blanket or kneeling pad can be used to kneel on if knee pain or other discomfort is experienced in some poses)

My Yoga Lineage:

I have been practicing yoga since approximately 2007 although I began dedicating myself to regular practices in 2011. I have trained with Yoga Teacher Carol Murie in Grand Forks since early 2013. In mid 2015, I began an intensive 200 hour yoga teacher training program called YogaHour which was developed by Darren Rhodes of Texas. I studied under Sam Rice and Patty Gorder through the Sam Rice School of Yoga. I am also in the process of completing another 200 hour yoga training that I began in late 2016 called YogaFaith which was founded by Michelle Thielen, and is Christ-centered Yoga..."prayer in motion". Beyond my trainings, I have taken additional workshops & seminars with Christina Sell, Dr. Neil Patel, Sam Rice and Jaimie Perkunas.  I am a RYT-200 Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher and a Certified yogahour Teacher.


How Yoga Has Helped Me:

Yoga is a true passion of mine and I feel it is necessary not only to my physical health but also to my mental, spiritual, and emotional health. When I dedicated myself to regularly practicing yoga, it strengthened me physically, emotionally and mentally along with strengthening my Christian faith. Yoga helped me release stress from my high stress schedule, taught me how to breathe, focus on self (what I needed in order to grow), have a more positive attitude and how to honor myself. Most of all, I have felt and been stronger than ever before. Not only that, but it helped realign my body from head to toe....RESULTS: 

  • much less back, shoulder & neck pain
  • dramatic decrease in monthly cramping
  • increased overall range of motion AND strength in my arms, legs and core (abs)
  • decrease in headaches
  • better sleep/improved mood/less anxiety (more positivity! yay)
  • increased energy level
  • and so much more! Each month I see improvement somehow!

Every aspect of my life has been positively impacted by the things I've learned and the poses I've done in my yoga practices. I am a devoted Christian and it has deepened my personal relationship with God as well. Every BODY is different BUT I encourage everyone to just try a few classes (not just one but a few) and truly feel the difference! I'm excited to help people feel better and find relief!

*ABOUT THIS CLASS:

Strengthen & Lengthen Yoga is a yogahour themed class which is a flow form class with specific and clear alignment instructions for fit beginners. Alignment based yoga generally uses more props and modifications to align the body properly when flexibility doesn't allow for full extent into the pose. This class is for beginners who want to gain some strength, flexibility and mobility and become more fit with this one hour workout. It is a great workout for those who find the Beginners class a bit too slow and are ready for more physical fitness.

*ABOUT CAROL:

I have been studying yoga for 30 years and teaching for 22 years. I have completed extensive teacher trainings in Ashtanga Yoga (Power yoga with Beryl Bender Birch) and Anusara Yoga (with John Friend and many of his senior teachers). I am currently taking a 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) and yogahour certification training.

*ABOUT THIS CLASS:

YogaFaith classes are Christ-centered yoga classes. This is a flow yoga class that typically begins with a verse of scripture and prayer. All music in class is christian music, most often with lyrics. Class still focuses on proper posture throughout the poses along with strengthening and stretching the muscles of the entire body. Our body is a temple and we need to take care of our bodies and use them to praise God. Worship him with all of our BODY, mind and soul. This class is for students of any and all levels.
